Mount Cabalian is categorized as an active stratovolcano by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, situated within the Eastern Visayas volcanic arc. Standing at an elevation of approximately 945 meters above sea level and with a base diameter of 8.5 kilometers, this volcano presents a complex volcanic structure marked by multiple peaks. Alongside solfataras, thermal features such as hot springs can be found on the east and west flanks of the volcano.
Despite its historical eruptions, Cabalian has been relatively dormant in recent centuries, with its last known activity recorded in the 1820s. At its summit lies Cabalian Lake, also known as Lake Danao, a tranquil crater lake with an elevation of 733 meters. This picturesque lake has become a sought-after tourist destination, drawing visitors from across the country. The lake offers opportunities for swimming, and its ambiance is enhanced by morning fog, creating a mysterious and enchanting atmosphere.
