The Ulot River, the longest river in Samar, is a hidden gem nestled within the Samar Island Natural Park (SINP). It is known for its remarkable biodiversity and is the principal highway for transporting people and goods.

The Ulot River boasts an exciting water adventure known as the TORPEDO Extreme Boat Adventure. This adrenaline-pumping experience involves navigating the river on a Torpedo boat, specially designed to cut through the river and navigate its wild waters. The Torpedo Extreme Boat Adventure offers both downstream and upstream river boating excursions, providing visitors with an unforgettable experience.

The Ulot River has a rich history, having been used as a distribution channel for illegal logging before the establishment of the Samar Island Natural Park (SINP). However, following its designation as an ecotourism destination, the river’s potential for adventure and eco-cultural experiences was realized. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and other governmental and non-governmental organizations collaborated to transform the river into an ecotourism and adventure destination, providing sustainable livelihoods for the local community.

The establishment of the Tenani Boat Operators for River Protection and Environmental Development Organization (TORPEDO) has played a crucial role in facilitating the transition from illegal activities to sustainable ecotourism. The organization, comprising former illegal loggers, operates the Torpedo Extreme Boat Adventure, contributing to river protection and environmental conservation. Furthermore, the Tenani Association for Women and Development (TAWAD) empowers women in the community by providing additional sustainable livelihood opportunities.
